HobbyZone Millennium PTU
The HobbyZone Millennium PTU is an indoor-only RTF electric helicopter marketed and distributed by HobbyZone, a division of Horizon Hobby of Champaign, Illinois USA.
Introduced in the summer of 2007, the two-channel Millennium PTU (for "personal transportation unit") is the first low-cost helicopter of its type to utilize both 2.4 GHz radio technology as well as lithium polymer battery technology. A great many other inexpensive indoor helicopters depend on infrared control instead of radio control. Like those infrared-control helicopters, the Millennium PTU requires no previous flying experience.
The small, lightweight foam unit depicts a suited pilot figure with a helicopter apparatus strapped to his back. The rotor layout is of a conventional rather than a coaxial type. The main rotor is fixed-pitch with a flybar to help balance and manuever the model. Speed of the tail rotor, and therefore the model's direction, is proportionally controlled by the transmitter. The main rotor is proportionally controlled as well. Balance, manuerverability and forward flight speed are adjustable via a sliding weight on the carbon fiber tail boom as well as by digital trims on the transmitter. The transmitter also serves as a charger for the lithium polymer flight battery.
Another unique feature is the availability of key replacement components available through the manufacturer and which may be ordered through any hobby dealer which stocks the model.
As with all HobbyZone products, the Millennium PTU is sold as a fully assembled, ready-to-go package which includes four heavy-duty carbon zinc "AA" batteries for the transmitter/charger.
